Often times as a self-publisher you’ll have a simple project like a short story or lead magnet that requires a cover and it simply doesn’t make sense to have to spend $100 and wait six weeks to get that cover. Or to have to choose between a set of pre-made covers that aren’t ideal for your purpose.

This course is meant to walk you through how to use Affinity Publisher to create basic book covers. In the course we will cover three basic layouts: a design that uses a single image for the bottom section of the cover, a design that uses a side image and is text-heavy, and a design that uses an image for the full cover.

You’ll also learn some tricks for working with glyph variations in fonts and how to deal with text on a busy background using design elements. (As seen in one of the example covers that’s on the course image.)

After that we’ll walk through how to take that ebook cover and use it to create a print cover for an Amazon (KDP) paperback as well as an IngramSpark paperback and hard cover.

Once you’re finished with this course you should understand basic design principles that can be used for cover design and have the skills you need to create simple covers. Note that this course is taught using Affinity Publisher not Affinity Photo because the type of covers we’re going to create here are more about element placement than photo manipulation.
