EnviroDrone - Drones (UAVs) for Environmental Management

Requirements

Aerial imagery and other UAV (drone) applications can provide tremendous benefits to the field of environmental management.

Some applications include enhanced aerial imagery, stockpile and excavation volume calculations, assessment and monitoring of erosion, shorelines, habitat, vegetation and so much more. Drones can also provide beneficial uses for glacial mapping, climate change monitoring, and energy sector inspections.

Because drones can travel over areas that are not generally accessible on foot, environmental professionals now have the ability to monitor and assess environmentally sensitive areas, species-at-risk habitat, or areas featuring difficult terrain, by using drones in a non-intrusive manner.

This short, informative course provides information about using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, or drones) for conducting a wide range of environmental work, including assessment, monitoring and remediation.

The course also includes information about different types of UAVs and sensors, flight considerations, environmental and privacy considerations, and permitting.

The course is led by Instructor Jenny Gough, who has more than 25 years of international experience in environmental management, with 8 years of effectively using drones for a variety of environmental applications, as detailed in the course.

This course is suitable for environmental professionals looking to enhance their environmental management strategy using aerial imagery, or for drone pilots looking to expand their service offerings into the environmental field.
