Business English for ESL: making presentations

Requirements

This is an ESL Business English course for non-native speakers of English who need to make presentations in English. You may be doing TOEIC or IELTS or TOEFL or nothing at all.

If you are in business and you want to be a leader, you will have to make presentations in English, even if English is not your first language. You might not like the idea, but it is true.

Making presentations , giving presentations, is an essential leadership skill.

Managers cannot be expected to speak to everyone on a one-to-one basis every time there is something important to communicate. They often need to pass information over quickly to key members of staff as a group. They need to inform quickly.

The company may be making new changes to systems or procedures. You may have to explain those changes to staff.

You may be in a position where you can see the benefits of a certain change. You may need to give a presentation to persuade others of the need to adopt those changes.

As a manager, or a future manager, presentations will be an essential tool. You need to learn how to do them properly.

One of the challenges, though, is that English is not your native language. In fact, you may still be unsure of your English. You may still be learning the language. Even if you are fluent in English, you may feel unsure of making a presentation in front of other important co-workers many of whom are native speakers.

Don’t worry! It’s much easier than you think. It takes preparation. It takes practice. But follow the advice in the course and you’ll do fine. You can do it!

This course will take you through the different stages:  how to prepare a presentation; how to introduce the presentation; how to focus on the main ideas; how to summarise and conclude; how to answer questions and the course always remembers that English is not your first language.  The language help is always there.
